Pet Of The Month

Pet of the Month: Elvis

Happy "Pet of the Month" to Elvis!
January 2020

Elvis is just the coolest! We sure do love him tender at BHVH! When we first met Elvis, we were all shook up, so we knew he was special!

This handsome dog found his forever home through the help of a newspaper listing. We are thankful and thrilled that he now knows such love and devotion. He certainly deserves it!

When in for a visit, Elvis (rock and) rolls with whatever comes his way! He is an absolute joy to work with and love on.

His parents were so kind to share his story:

“We are so proud Elvis has been picked as the Pet of the Month! We have been training him since we got him for this very moment!”

“I saw Elvis’s picture in the paper with the notice- ‘Elvis is in the building’. Being an Elvis fan, I sent Vince to look at him. It was love at first sight. He put a hold on him until I could go see him. We took him home that weekend and Elvis sang the attached song all the way home. (Ain't Nothin' but a Pound Dog) We couldn’t have gotten a better dog.

Elvis loves to go for walks/runs on trails and in the woods. He can’t get enough of swimming in the river and chasing sticks-although he doesn’t always like to give them up. He loves to run with kids and other dogs, especially his girlfriend, Rio.

He does think he is a lap dog and tries to get as close to you as he can on the couch. He is the best- and thank you for noticing!”

There is no hiding that Elvis really is a King! We feel fortunate to know Elvis and care for him. All our love, buddy!

Pet of the Month: Jake

Happy "Pet of the Month" to Jake!

February 2020

We first met Jake’s family when we were invited into their home. Jake’s family sought our help for Benny, their original tall, dark and handsome pup. We were happy to help Benny in the comfort of his own house. Benny was a wonderful dog who left us too soon. We know Benny is proud to see Jake continue his legacy. Jake has a lot of growing left to do. He will continue to develop his own personality, but certainly he will share many great traits with Benny.

Jake’s family shared his story:

When we tell people that we have a flat-coated retriever, people's first reaction is WHAT'S THAT? Well they are the "Peter Pan of the Sporting Group." We've been dog lovers forever and when we met Benny, we understood why the fairy tale of the never ending childhood was true. Benny was a lovable companion, jovial tyke, and wonderful son. He was always smiling and the song is true, "When you're smiling the whole world smiles with you." His exuberant personality was certainly contagious. When Benny became sick, he could not leave the house. We called Bunker Hill because they were a travelling vet. Michele and her team were fabulous. They were caring until the end. Sadly, Benny passed away too soon. With wanting to find a pup as kind-hearted and happy-go-lucky as Benny, we found Jake from Wauseon, OH. We were uncertain of routines and coaching puppy sessions; but one thing we knew was certain is that we knew Bunker Hill was not only our vet, but our friends. Michele truly has a fondness for the animals, the feeling is mutual. Jake is only 12 weeks old, but he's having fun adjusting to his new home. He loves being around people; his family, friends, and neighbors. He loves his plushed toys, and retrieving toy. February is a month of love, and we're happy, we're honored to remember Benny's legacy and eager to begin the adventure with Jake; "When there's a smile in your heart, there's no better time to start." And as my dad always says: flat-coats are like potato chips, "you can never have just one."

Thank you Jake for helping us heal and look forward to the future! Your future is bright!

Pet of the Month: Larry

Happy "Pet of the Month" to Larry!
March 2020

Larry recently celebrated Pet Dental Health month with us by having MANY teeth surgically extracted. Larry suffered from a medical condition that caused significant swelling, bleeding and pain in his mouth. We feel honored to have been given the chance to get him some comfort. Some pets require an adjustment period to become accustomed to life without many or any teeth. This guy never missed a step! He visited us for a recheck and had gained weight! Great work Larry and family!

They told us all about Larry’s back story, and how he arrived in their loving home...

Larry was born in July of 2016. His mom was a pregnant calico stray (Callie) that we took in. We had intended to let her deliver and eventually find homes for them all as we already had a couple of kitties and a dog. When it came time for her to deliver, she gave birth to Larry, a sister and 2 stillborn babies. Mom (Callie) was still showing signs of labor and not feeding her babies so she was taken to the hospital where they removed a third stillborn baby. I bottle fed Larry and his sister and kept them warm while mom recovered but his sister died within a week without warning. Larry was the only survivor of a litter of 5 and there was no way we were giving him or his mom up for adoption now, so we took these special kitties in as part of our already furry family. If we never trapped his mom, she would’ve really suffered and died along with Larry.

"Larry makes us laugh with his silly antics a few times each day. He’s a typical lovable ginger cat. He used to unroll the toilet paper, but graduated to stealing pairs of socks from the clean laundry instead. He plays fetch and loves chicken and laser pens. He looks at us sideways which we think is just the greatest!! We love our Larry!!”

Congratulations, Larry! Enjoy this new part of your life!
